Installation of Reverend Tim OslovishSaturday August 24th @ 3pm Bishop Tim Oslovich was elected at the Alaska Synod Assembly on April 27. He served as the pastor in Shishmaref, Alaska from 1997 until 2003. He has been back in Alaska and serving as our bishop since July 1, and we will celebrate the beginning of a new season of ministry with an installation service on August 24. Please join us for a festive worship service and a reception. The Reverend Elizabeth Eaton, the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will preach and preside at the installation. |
Brause Hall Roof HelpSaturday August 24th After a thorough investigation into the slowly failing roof truss system covering Brause Hall, a fix has been proposed. The installation of a laminated beam running the length of the vaulted ceiling at the ridge with one post at mid span will be enough to reinforce the existing roof structure and prevent further damage. It will be a coordinated effort of material delivery, equipment rental and a volunteer work party. The proposed date is August 24th if a few people can commit to helping out that day. Once the beam is maneuvered into place on the floor, it shouldn’t take long to jack it up and secure in place. If you would like to help out it might be quite entertaining as the 40 foot, 800# beam gets lifted into place with two rented material lifts! Contact Steve Wakeland if you would like to help.phone/text 907 830 9246 or email swakeland@gmail.com |

Garden Do-over and Opportunity
Our perennial garden outside Joy's back door had become unmanageable over time, to the point that we could no longer dig up weeds and other invasive weeds. A professional landscaper and one of Joy's Eagle Scout dads, Scott Janisch, put the garden to rights, and we look forward to continuing his efforts this fall and next spring.
And here's the opportunity - we no longer need the Allen blocks that had defined the garden's front edge. They're stacked along the chainlink fence at the front of the garden, along with some hexagonal paving stones, and they're available to anyone who can transport them and put them to good use. Thanks for helping us recycle our landscape materials!

Hymnal Nameplates
A much-delayed project was finally completed, thanks to the efforts of Grace and Karen Johnson. In 2007, fundraising efforts paid for the acquisition of the cranberry hymnals that we use in the Sanctuary. Donors were to be thanked through the creation of nameplates that listed their names and any dedication they requested. Unfortunately, the paperwork was lost over time and recently rediscovered. Labels were printed, and Grace and Karen inserted them in the hymnals. Many of our original donors have left the congregation, but you may find your name or that of past friends. Much appreciation to our donors and especially to Grace and Karen. |
REGISTER FOR CONFIRMATION CLASS!
Confirmation class begins in September (dates TBD). Confirmation is designed for students in grades 6-8. If you have a student in high school desiring to participate in Confirmation, please e-mail Pastor Sean. Confirmation is a three-year program equipping young teenagers to engage more fully in their faith and say "yes" to God's good work in them. Students will study scripture and reflect with the pastor, youth leaders, and other adults in the congregation, learn about the Lutheran perspective on Christian faith, engage in service projects, and learn more about worship practices. At the end of the three years, students have the opportunity to affirm their baptism before the congregation and then we throw a party to celebrate God's work of love and grace in their lives!
