Saturday Work Group | JUNE 14th9:00am | 2nd Saturday of each month If weather permits, we'll use our work group time to clean out the shed where a lot of unused stuff seems to migrate. If it rains, we'll take care of some routine chores inside. No matter what task, we'll end by 11am sharp in order to allow folks to attend other events that day. Needed: Cargo Trailer for Alaska Synod Youth Trip
We are looking to borrow a large cargo trailer to help transport luggage, gear, and food for 45 students and chaperones attending the Alaska Synod Youth Trip. The trailer will be needed for travel to Fairbanks during the week of June 23–27. If you have a trailer available or know someone who might be willing to lend one, we would be incredibly grateful for your help. Please contact Pastor Sean if you can assist. |

Alaska Synod Youth Trip – We Need Your Help!
Some of our youth will be joining Pastor Sean on the upcoming Alaska Synod Youth Trip! They'll spend a week in Fairbanks rafting, camping, and participating in a local service project. In total, 40 youth and 9 adults from ELCA congregations across Alaska will be taking part — and that means we’ll need lots of food to keep everyone energized! Can you help by providing some baked goods for snacks and desserts? To help us keep everyone safe, be sure to include a label or note indicating whether your items contain nuts. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pastor Sean. Thank you for supporting our youth and helping make this trip a success! |

Joyful Women at AKRFW- Wrap-up
Joy's team of 11 joined 5300 participants for the June 7th Alaska Run for Women, either in person or virtually. Over $5 million has been raised by the event for breast cancer research since 1993; as a team we raised $811(!) this year alone. It's an amazing experience to witness the solidarity and energy in pink!
Jesus traveled with us to the race, joining our team of Joyful Women: Scooter Bentson, Rachel Christman, Nancy Hemsath, Kathy Huntington, Penny Mans, Karen Peterson, Lori Stender, Kristi Swain, Dina Torres, Marcia Wakeland, and Sue Weimer.
Next year's race is already planned for Saturday, June 8 - come join us!

SUMMER FUN: FROM SHORE TO FONTGrab some water from your travels! This summer let’s celebrate our baptism using the waters of Alaska! Grab a container from church and collect water from your travels: rivers, lakes, harbors, or the ocean. Label it with your name and location, then return it to Joy. We’ll filter it and, in the fall, pour each one into our baptismal font—reminding us that though we come from many places and stories, we are one in Christ. Let’s make a splash of connection and faith this summer! For more infomation visit:

SUMMER FUN: JESUS ON THE GO!Begins Wed, May 28th Pick up your “little Jesus” figurine at Joy and take him along on all your summer adventures! Each Wednesday, beginning on May 28th, Joy Lutheran will post a fun photo of Jesus somewhere new on our Facebook page—and we want to see where he’s gone with you too! Whether you’re camping, fishing, hiking, working, or just relaxing, snap a photo with Jesus and share it in the comment section on our post. If you don’t have a Facebook account, text or email us your photo and we’ll share it. It’s a fun way to stay connected and remember Jesus is with us everywhere we go! Be sure to like our Facebook page and follow along this summer. |

What Pride Means to Me
PRIDE has many meanings from one of the seven deadly sins to a healthy self esteem, to conceit - then there are the nouns and verbs surrounding PRIDE for the LGBTQIA+ Community. Then are the many trappings that surround PRIDE, the Rainbow flag, to annual celebrations around the world, and not so much in some places. The list is endless as are the events - both positive and negative. So, for me - What does PRIDE mean to me? I'm personally reminded that the first PRIDE was really a Riot...So, at which I'm reminded life largely resembles a Riot, in so many ways - a Struggle! However - I think as for us all, being me, a person, is so much more than being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community - after much thought through my years, I'm a gay man, but I'm so much more - that's only one facet - I'm a dad, I've been a husband twice before and now a third time. I have an two academic degrees, have owned a business, enjoy several interests from music to gardening and reading and movies, and I'm a motor head - I adore automobiles, classic ones especially. I'll talk your head off about cars! Beware! Engagingly, PRIDE for me continues to be about respect - respect for myself, and respect for others - near, and far - caring about the other person... I have often thought when others have hurled comments towards me in a negative manner - "Where did love become lost in their lives?" I tend to, work towards asking - where did the care and love for others go? What happened to them in their lives? Who didn't show them grace or generosity of love. How come? Where was the breakdown? I being a person, a human have also had paucity of thought and deed, mostly lack of action. We, have the ability to love one another, as a believer of the Holy Gospels and Jesus Christ - we are called to a love with blinders on - love as we are loved - care for others as we are cared for - this for me is the Crux of where PRIDE defines and what PRIDE means to me, for me - to being a gay man, it's not the only story - it's a part of the story - but wait there's more....
